To commemorate the Equal Pay Day, Carter Sadler met with LIVESTRONG as part of our series of intensive women interviews to discuss what women can do to achieve financial equality.

Sadler bravely resigned her work at E! In December 2017, when she discovered that her male co-host Jason Kennedy had doubled her salary, the news came. In the following months, the 43-year-old story has become an undeniable force in the equal pay for equal work, and Sadler has been walking, not just talking about this topic. She recently worked with LUNABar.com and the American College Women's Association (AAUW) to support salary negotiation resources for women.
Now, by April 14, 2018, LUNA will receive a 20% discount on all LUNA bars sold on LUNABar.com and match the discount amount to AAUW's donation up to $100,000. . The funds raised will help to provide women with wage negotiation resources.
A recent survey found that only 30% of women are willing to negotiate their own salary - in contrast, up to 60% of men. “Negotiation is one of the ways we can make a difference,” she pointed out. "This is what we control. If we can learn how to do better, we can narrow this wage gap."
How big is the wage gap? Sadler pointed out that compared with white male colleagues, the price of white women is only 80 cents. The gap is even awkward for women of color.

"Women need practical tools," Sadler explained to LIVESTRONG. “What can I do today to raise my salary, make more money, and bring more wages to my family?”
Some of the tools that Sadler learned included getting the expected salary first. Number and friendsFriends with potential employers and role-playing negotiation scenarios. “Women themselves don’t know there are many different ways,” she said, adding that AAUW also has online tools to help. "You have to have this information and power, and then you have to take action. It's not just talking about conversation, you have to walk."
This is the mother of two children when she resigned from the E position! The news before the start of the awards season began. Debra Messing and Eva Longoria gathered around the actress to use the red carpet of the 2018 Golden Globe Award as a platform to discuss her pay disputes. Sadler was overwhelmed by Hollywood's response. “This is at least exciting,” she revealed Messing’s “unbelievable surprise” support. "I was shocked. I am sure I am crying. I am just living my experience and telling my truth."
At that time she realized that her experience was just a bigger example. "At the time I really understood: This is not my story, it is a woman's story," she continued. "They are trying to convey that I am just a symbol of many women, maybe there is no sound ice, but I am experiencing the same injustice. That is when I like it, 'We are doing something here. This is a sport, this is just a Start. '[
People can even take some measures to promote sports. "Use your voice, maybe even at the workplace," she urged. Knock on the door of your manager and say, 'Why is this inequality there, what can I do to help me change my colleagues, I respect and do the same job?'"
Sadler Very optimistic about the future of the workplace, especially because the next generation - including her own two sons - "get it." "The more we talk, the more things about it, the more companies we participate in. The future is bright!" she said.
We are so proud of Sadler's courage, inspired by her message. Keep walking, girl!
