Can I take L-carnitine in blood pressure medicine?

Your body produces an amino acid called L-carnitine in the liver and kidneys and uses it to convert fat into energy. Usually your body can make all the L-carnitine it needs, but some heart or vascular diseases can cause low levels of L-carnitine in the body. Your body may not be able to make enough L-carnitine or transport it to the tissue in which it is used. Consult a health care professional before taking L-carnitine supplements.

L-Carnitine and Disease

L-Carnitine as an antioxidant, a substance that resists harmful particles in the body is called Free radicals. Free radicals - caused by normal aging, exposure to po pollutants and toxins - can cause damage to your body cells. L-carnitine is used in many heart diseases such as heart failure and angina, or chest pain, as well as peripheral vascular disease and diabetic neuropathy. It may also be used for kidney disease, Alzheimer's disease and male impotence.

About L-Carnitine

L-Carnitine is found in many foods including red meat, dairy products, fish, poultry, wheat, asparagus, avocado and peanut butter. It also has a complementary form. According to data from the University of Maryland Medical Center, the recommended dose is usually 1 to 3 grams per day. The side effects of L-carnitine are usually mild. A dose of more than 5 grams per day may cause diarrhea and occasionally increase appetite, body odor or rash.

L-Carnitine and Hypertension

Hypertension or hypertension is a potentially serious condition that can lead to heart failure or stroke if left untreated. Medical care for high blood pressure usually includes lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, and may also include medication. Many drugs are used to treat high blood pressure, and they work in different ways. Diuretics lower blood pressure by reducing the amount of fluid in the body. Other drugs dilate blood vessels or alter body chemistry. L-carnitine may also lower blood pressure.

Research

In a study in the June 2010 issue of the Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry, L-carnitine significantly reduced blood pressure in hypertensive rats.. A study reported in the February 2010 Asian Journal of "Chinese New Learning Guan Bing" found that after intravenous L-carnitine treatment, the blood pressure of patients with pulmonary hypertension was significantly reduced, and exercise tolerance was also improved. The study found in the September 2009 issue of Hypertension that twice-daily administration of 1 gram of L-carnitine reduced blood pressure in patients with increased cardiovascular risk.

Precautions and Warnings

Although L-Carnitine has relatively few side effects, it can lower blood pressure. If you are also taking antihypertensive drugs, adding L-carnitine can lower your blood pressure. Consult a health care professional before starting to take L-carnitine, especially if you have taken hypertensive doctors for inflation.
