Colonoscopy increases the risk of iron supplements

Colonoscopy is a method of examining the large intestine and rectum for the diagnosis of a variety of health conditions including colon cancer and polyps. Despite the use of outpatient techniques during colonoscopy, medication and dietary restrictions were initiated a few days before the exam. Iron supplements are a limiting factor before colonoscopy.

Preparing for colonoscopy

Certain drugs and supplements must be avoided for a period of time before colonoscopy Because they may interfere with surgery or subsequent recovery. Iron is one such supplement that must be reduced or av with a few days of help to help keep the colon clean and the doctor can see the area. Patients should discuss with the doctor the appropriate time to avoid iron supplementation, especially if it is used for a disease or disease.

Iron Hazard

Iron supplements tend to make your feces darker in color and thickness, making it difficult for doctors to spot anomalies or problems. If this is the case, the process may have to be repeated to ensure that health complications are not missed. If you do not follow the doctor's advice on iron supplementation before colonoscopy, your health insurance may not pay for the second check.

Reduce iron intake

A few days before colonoscopy, stop taking iron pplements. This gives your body time to flush out any remaining iron and clear the colon for better visibility. Unless your health needs to be above average, you are less likely to need to reduce iron intake through food. If you eat a lot of meat and whole grains, ask your doctor about the amount of health you have in the first few days of surgery.

Notes

In some cases, colonoscopy revealed anemia when other tests were not possible. Anemia is a condition caused by low iron levels that affects the body's ability to deliver oxygen to internal organs. If your doctor suspects you have anemia and you take iron supplements to resolve the problem, be sure to avoid using them before checking.
