Acupuncture and internal meniscus tear

Acupuncture is a therapy that inserts a fine needle into a specific part of the body to trigger a specific reaction. Although there are various acupuncture methods, most of the acupuncture used in the United States is based on traditional Chinese medicine theory. Treating a meniscus tear will involve using the TCM theory to diagnose the problem and then placing the needle at the appropriate point. If you choose to use acupuncture, please consult your doctor to ensure there is no conflict with any other form of treatment you receive.

Meniscus tear

The meniscus is a C-shaped structure made of cartilage on the knee. It protects the knee by providing shock absorption and helps to lubricate the knee for a smoother movement. In athletes who often twist their knees or bend their knees too often, tearing of the medial or medial meniscus is common. Damage to the meniscus can cause a variety of symptoms including pain, swelling, limited movement, and snoring or grinding noise. Treatment consists mainly of relieving pain and healing the tears, but if the tear is severe, surgery can be performed.

The basic diagnosis of meniscal tear is according to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, which is the trauma of local qi stagnation. Qi is a complex concept, but basically transforms into a subtle energy flow body although blood stasis is comparable to similar diagnoses in modern medicine. Acupuncture treatment for meniscal tears will focus on moving blood to relieve pain, reduce swelling and promote healing. Acupuncture points

The main acupuncture points are located around the knee, the exact location depends on the degree of pain and swelling. In many cases, the prescribed points are located along a particular line of the body known as the meridian, but pain, tight or soft points are often used - called ashi points. Far points or points f can also be prescribed outside the knee based on a complete diagnosis. Commonly used acupoints include points on the meridians of the liver, kidneys, and spleen because they are closely related to joints, blood, and body fluids.
